Hodgson, Angelina A. "Angie" , a 43 year resident of Torrance, CA, passed away on Friday, Mar 6, 2009 in Torrance. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Angie was 85 when she died. She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church. After graduating from Kent State University, Angie Zima taught art at the elementary and junior high school level until meeting and becoming engaged to Air Force Captain Walter Hodgson. She worked as a medical receptionist during their engagement and then "retired" from the paid workforce to be a full-time wife and mother. Angie enjoyed painting, gardening, and volunteer work. While she rarely had the opportunity to paint, she kept fruit trees and roses in her yard, and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed collecting helicopters, hummingbirds and hedgehogs, though in recent years her collection of angels brought her joy. After her husband's death in 1978, Angie began volunteering at the VA Hospital in Long Beach. She brightened up the halls by dressing up for holidays. One of her favorite outfits was as a Christmas Elf. Only weeks before her retirement in 2008, she received a commendation for 3000 hours of volunteer service. She was active in her church. She served as lector and Eucharistic minister to the sick, and was a long-time member of St. Elizabeth's Guild at Nativity Church. She was passionate about her daughter Marie's voice. She loved to sing herself, but never had much opportunity, so she reveled in her daughter's choice of career, supporting her by attending every concert she could. Angie enjoyed a good football game, especially if Kent State was playing, or Ohio was playing Air Force. Angie is survived by Eugenia Braun, sister; Francis Zima, brother; Angela Glasgow, daughter & Craig, of Lake Havasu City, AZ; Marie Hodgson, daughter, of Los Angeles, CA; Kathleen Green, daughter, of Palmdale, CA; Margaret Curry, daughter, & Keith of Hawthorne, CA; Walter Hodgson II, son, of Lawndale, CA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years of marriage, Walter, and by brothers Longie, Zig and Victor. A Vigil Service will be Monday, March 16, 2009 at 7 PM at Rice Mortuary Chapel in Torrance, CA. The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 5448 Crest Road, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90274 (310) 377-5571. Reception following. Burial will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City at 10:00am, Wednesday, March 18.

  1. Angie & Walt were like 2nd parents to me as they trusted me to babysit their children. Being a good Catholic family, there was always a new baby each year. Angie helped me through many crises in my life – from 1957 on.

  2. Marie and family: Please accept my condolences upon your Mom’s passing. She was always so warm and gracious whenever I visited your home during our days at BMHS, and whenever I would run into her around town over the years — most recently at a Master Chorale concert at Disney Hall. May you all take comfort in the fact that she’s now reunited with your Dad, and enjoying the eternal reward she so richly deserves. Warmest regards,

  3. Too many condolences and too few memories. But the words are undone and flowing. God willing I will Have them for you all before any more of us pass. -Sergeant Braun
