Alice was born on May 19, 1912 on a small farm in Warren County, Ohio, the third of four daughters of Perry and Elsie Lawson. She began her education in a one-room school and then attended small rural schools until she was in the 7th grade. At that time her family moved to the small town of Springboro, Ohio. She graduated from the high school there in 1930 and immediately went to Columbus, Ohio where she enrolled at Bliss Business College. After finishing that course of study, she worked part-time as a secretary for the YMCA until 1935, when she took a position in the Columbus office of the Life Insurance Co. of Virginia, as office manager. In 1943 she moved to Penn Mutual Insurance, again as office manager and became a licensed insurance salesperson in 1948.In 1952 she married Edgar Wilson and became an instant mother to Barbara, then 7 1/2 and Mike, 3 1/2. The family moved to Redondo Beach and Alice busied herself with the children's activities and worked with Edgar in his insurance business. She was active in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church and was well known by the children in the Sunday school classes. Edgar died suddenly in 1961, and for the next ten years Alice was a single mother, focusing on the children and establishing the insurance business as her own. She administered the insurance program for many groups including the California Optometric Association and the City of Redondo Beach. In 1971 she met and married Joe Wogan and they enjoyed family activities and traveling. Joe died in 1993. Alice continued to enjoy spending time with her family which included six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, her friends, occasional travels and her books. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Wilson Handly of Fresno and Barbara's children Kristin Handly Leucht, Monika Handly, Lisa Handly and Jon Handly and her son Mike Wilson of Redondo Beach and his children William Wilson and Simona Wilson.
