Alfonso
Duarte, Alfonso Jose He was an 82 year resident of the South Bay area, who moved to Long Beach for the last few years. He was also known by friends and family as Ponch. He passed away June 14, 2006 in Lakewood California Hospital. Alfonso was born January 20, 1919 in Purepero Michurcan Mexico. He came to Redondo Beach at the age of 5 years old. He was the oldest of 14 brothers and sisters. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. His family will miss him greatly. He leaves behind a Son, Rick Duarte (Vivian); two Daughters, Margarita Carrillo and Robin Marquez (Paul); three Grandchildren, Grandsons Michael (Janet) and Paul Carrillo (Judy), and Granddaughter Samantha Zepeda; four Great Grandchildren, Sara, Kyle, Krystal. He is predeceased by Grandchildren Christopher and Cynthia. His niece Christine Marchello took care of him. He also has three living brothers, Frankie, Emilio, and Joe; and many nephews and nieces. Viewing will be at Rice Mortuary Sunday June 18, 2006 from 11am to 4pm. Services will be held Monday June 19, 2006 at Holy Cross Mausoleum at 9:30am, processing to the gravesite. A Reception will follow right after at the Eagles Hall, 125 S. Catalina Avenue, Redondo Beach.
