Albert Lawrence Castilho, 82, originally of Hong Kong, British Crown Colony, beloved husband of Lydia Theresa Castilho, 82, devoted father of Larry, 59, Ken, 57, Brian, 55, Janice, 50, and Linda, 47, a loving grandfather to ten grandchildren and a wonderful father-in-law passed away peacefully on January 28, 2018 in Torrance, California into the Kingdom of Heaven. As the only son to his parents, Stella and Lourenco, Albert attended St. Joseph Catholic School and worked for the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. He served in the British Hong Kong Regiment and was trained as a sharp shooter. On July 7, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lydia, and the following year they voyaged to Los Angeles, California together with their newborn son, Larry. Albert became an American citizen in 1969. Throughout a 35 year career as a Commercial Truck Driver for Lucky's grocery stores, Albert received many Safety Awards and was known for the CB handle "Side Pocket". His love of playing pool, going to the horse races, fishing and camping at the many lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountains and visiting many of the US National Parks in the West kept him very active. He was constantly doing projects around the house or to the house for 50 years! All of his children can say they had a hand in building or painting something to his house. Full of pride and a big heart, Albert was often an entertaining host and loved to cook for family and friends. We will certainly miss his delicious dishes! He embodied the values of the Old West with courage, conviction, loyalty, strength, honor and discipline. He was a man of his word. After retiring, Albert continued to do projects and yard work well into his 80's and spend hours studying the horse races at Hollywood Park and Santa Anita Racetrack. His favorite horses always seem to elude him on winning! Forever the Gentleman and the Hero, we will always remember his enduring catch phrases, hearty laugh, and those cherished vacation memories as the eternal Explorer and Adventurer. Albert was also caretaker of untold cats and kittens as well as our beloved dogs, Duke and Rocky. All our pets loved him and trusted him! We love you and wish you eternal peace as you smile down on all of us. You were taken too suddenly and will be terribly missed. This is our final Scattamoosh. May God bless you! Rest In Peace. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church of Padua and a Celebration of Life reception will be held at the Lighthouse Memorials and Receptions a short block away. Please join his family on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 12 noon to 4:30 pm at 1050 W. 163rd Street and 1016 W. 164th Street in Gardena, California.

    Dear Al,
to me you were more than just a hard working man, to me, you were one of the rare and few that i ever considered to have attained that of an accomplished life… the epitome of what a husband, father, man, and everything should be…
In this very moment, discovering all this,,,Immediately i had to give my prayers and pay tribute to a man who would deserve nothing less,
so right away, here i am saying hello once again,,i know you are up there right now and can see this, feel this, and so with knowing that,
I am sending so much love to your family right now, and to you as well Al, i am sending all my love to you on the other side… see you soon and say hi to my grandpa Chuck for me, if you guys never met down here, so if you havent already met up there, please do!
