Obituary

Robert “Bob” Isami Ishii, age 77, passed away peacefully into the Lord’s presence on Monday, May 20, after suffering a stroke and multiple medical complications.

He was born on August 29, 1941 in Lihue, Hawaii to Dean Ishii and Masako Miura Ishii. The youngest of four children, Bob was raised in the tropical paradise of Wailua on the island of Kauai and graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu in 1958. He attended the University of Hawaii and later finished his college years at Cal State LA.

Bob also attended Los Angeles City College where he completed the dental technician program and received a certification to open a dental laboratory. Bob owned and operated Ishii Dental Lab in Gardena for 50 years, perfecting the art of making crowns and bridges.

He settled in the South Bay and was a long time resident of Torrance, and then El Segundo. An avid golfer, Bob was a member of Par Flight Golf Club, Aloha Golf Club, and Golden Eagles Golf Club, and he played every chance he got. He also enjoyed bike riding and running at the beach, in addition to eating at his favorite restaurants.

After retiring last year, it was his honor to serve as chaplain of his church. His love for the Lord and his compassion for people were evident. He persevered in prayer, and shared the Good News of the Gospel whenever and wherever he found a listening ear. Best of all, he could share his love for Christ while he was eating or golfing!

Bob will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Diane, and children Laurie (Brian), Tracy (Shawn), Jonathan (Tara), and Bethany (Matt), by his grandchildren Shawn, Shane, Blake and Lila, by his sister, Pauline (Rudy), his large extended family, and many dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Masako, and by his two brothers, Dean, Jr. and Lloyd.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at the El Segundo United Methodist Church on Friday, June 7th at 11:00 am.
