Hector Lozano Sulit, MD, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 in Torrance, CA, at the age of 80. Born in Boac, Marinduque, Philippines in 1939, Hector resided most of his life in Los Angeles, CA. He was most recently a member of St. James Catholic Church in Redondo Beach, CA.
Hector’s innate kindness won the heart of his college classmate, Maria Paz Fernandez. They were married in 1966 and had three children, of whom they were very proud: Victor (a medical doctor), Ana (a family law attorney), and Freddie (an animation producer). Hector’s love for his hometown inspired him to co-found the Marinduque Association of Southern CA in 1979. He subsequently led and participated in ten medical missions, helping to provide free medical care to thousands of indigent Marinduqeños. He was also an active member of the Philippine Medical Assn of Southern CA, an adjunct professor at UCLA, and an accomplished ophthalmologist for 50 years. Hector dedicated his life to helping others and worked tirelessly to give his family a wonderful life. He loved living in L.A., dancing with Maria Paz, gardening, photography, and scuba diving.
Dr. Hector L. Sulit is survived by brother Silvestre L. Sulit Jr. and sister-in-law Salvacion Sulit; son Dr. Victor Sulit; daughter Ana Sulit Schmidt, son-in-law Chris Schmidt, and Lucas Schmidt; son Freddie Sulit, daughter-in-law Tan-ya Gerrodette, and Wilder Gerrodette-Sulit.
